Bio
Within the panorama of contemporary artists, Fátima Pecci Carou adopts painting to think about the role of images in the construction of power and the transmission of ideas. Using a repertoire of resources and quotations that include art history, photographic archives, Japanese manga or autobiographical episodes, the artist composes paintings in which female characters in sexy poses propose a revision against the grain of history in a feminist key. The approach to everyday and domestic themes with humor and fantasy are also interesting aspects of her works.
Graduated in Visual Arts from the Universidad del Museo Social Argentino (UMSA) Buenos Aires, Argentina and student of Art History at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA) Argentina. In 2015 she received a scholarship at the Centro de Investigaciones Artísticas (CIA). She complemented her training with the ABE-ELE artwork clinics, coordinated by curators Javier Villa and Carla Barbero (2020) and by Ana Gallardo (2013- 2015). In 2019 she was nominated for the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO)- Grants & Commis scholarships. In 2020 she was invited to the 12th. Mercosur Biennial in Porto Alegre (curated by Andrea Giunta).
She has won the Visual Arts Acquisition Award 8M (Centro Cultural Kirchner- Palais de Glace 2021); the Award in Work – Barrio Joven (ArteBA, Galería Piedras 2018) and the 1st. Acquisition Award in Salón Nacional de Pintura de Reconquista (Santa Fe, 2019).
She has participated in awards from Fundación Federico Klemm, Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE), Fundación Itaú Argentina, Banco Central, Fondo Nacional de las Artes (FNA), among others.
